Edit your Windower non-Steam game shortcut properties and set the launch options to: -p “Steam Tablet” (or whatever the profile name is).

I set resolution on the tablet profile to either 2048x1536 or 1024x768 for best results. I named one “Steam 1080p” for my iPhone and “Steam Tablet” for my iPad. If you’re using Windower and launching from Steam as a non-Steam game, make sure you have a profile set up in Windower for your Steam Link client device. I’ll be happy to share how to set those registry keys if you still can’t get it working without them. It was something I tried along the way before I fixed a problem using dgVoodoo2.

Also, I had modified some registry keys for compatibility flags for the POL and FFXI executables to “RUNASINVOKER” but I’m not sure if it was required. Last things to note - I have to disconnect locally attached game controllers on my PC for my controller on iPad over Steam Link to work properly. He steps through the dgVoodoo2 install within the video. Google “FFXI dgVoodoo2” for help on this, or go find NextGames YouTube video on how to make FFXI beautiful in 2021. I had some trouble with FFXI launching over Steam Link without a DirectX display error until I installed and configured dgVoodoo2. Restart Steam as administrator if you haven’t already. You can edit the Steam shortcut properties and go to Compatibility Settings tab and check the “Run as administrator” box. You also need to run Steam as Administrator. It’s not ideal but it’s key to making it work because FFXI has to run as administrator, and Steam Link doesn’t handle the elevation prompts well. You’ll also need to completely disable UAC in Windows Settings / Control Panel.

I am using a PS4 controller, so I had to use DS4Windows emulator and hide the PS4 DirectInput device. Make sure you test it and it works as an Xbox controller. Make sure you configure POL and FFXI locally on the PC using an Xbox type controller. I recently got the game working using Steam Link on my iPad.
